Following the discovery of another batch of unpasteurized milk tainted with avian flu, California health officials have issued a fresh warning. The California Department of Public Health announced in a notification on Wednesday that a second retail sample of "cream top" whole raw milk from Raw Farm LLC had been found to contain the avian flu virus. A lot bearing the code 20241119 and a best-by date of December 7 is the source of the tainted product. At the state's request, Raw Farm, a Fresno County-based company, has recalled the impacted lot. This comes after an earlier recall of raw milk products with the same lot code but a different Nov. 27 best-by date.
The Santa Clara County Public Health Laboratory, which routinely tests raw milk from retail establishments throughout the county "as a second line of consumer protection," found this second case of avian flu during testing. As of right now, no diseases linked to Raw Farm's goods have been reported. The health department did, however, recommend that consumers cease using the contaminated raw milk and return any leftover goods to the retailer.
