According to Mastercard, Americans spent more money on Black Friday sales this year than they did in 2023, signaling a robust Christmas shopping season. According to a statement released by the firm on November 30, retail sales in the United States, excluding automobiles, increased 3.4 percent this Black Friday over the previous year. "Over the past few years, Black Friday has evolved into a window of opportunity for consumers to locate deals rather than simply a single day. Black Friday remained one of the most popular days of the season, even though shoppers were lured in by early discounts in the days before Thanksgiving. Compared to the previous year, online sales increased by 14.6%. A little 0.7% increase in in-store sales was recorded.

Michelle Meyer, chief economist at Mastercard Economics Institute, described Black Friday sales as a "good indicator" of how the holiday season is shaping out. "Our real-time insights show that consumers are comfortably in the gift-giving spirit as price reductions and deals occur across sectors, supporting budgets for holiday shopping." Colorado, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia saw higher-than-expected spending for the two weeks concluding on Black Friday.

fashion, jewelry, and gadgets were among the most popular holiday gifts, with online fashion sales increasing. "Shoppers are making the most of seasonal deals and enjoying a balance of experiences, spending, and gifts for all loved ones," said Steve Sadove, senior adviser at Mastercard.
